Aarakshan movie Review - Must Watch

Story:  Amitabh Bachchan, a principal of a premier college in Bhopal, is forced to resign from his post after he makes a controversial statement about India's reservation policy. Having alienated himself from his well-wishers and students, which includes his dalit protegee, Saif Ali Khan, he tries to rebuild life again. More importantly, he tries to save the Indian education system from unscrupulous sharks like Manoj Bajpayee who want to totally commercialise it and convert it into India's largest money-making enterprise, courtesy private coaching centres, capitation fee etc.  Movie Review:  Filmmaker Prakash Jha is a breed apart. Beginning as a premier proponent of India's parallel cinema movement in the 1970s-1980s, he never chose to lose his moorings. Instead, he opted to increase the contours of his canvas by opting for a kind of cinema that combined art with mainstream, meaning with masala. Hence the importance of films like Gangajal, Apharan, Rajneeti, w...

Somy blames her break up on Aishwarya

Today, after a short Bollywood career, Somy, originally from  Pakistan , has evolved into a US-based human rights activist. A decade later, the former couple remains in touch. Says Somy, "Salman was my first boyfriend. I had a huge crush on him as a teenager. The crush led me to leave  Florida  and move to India and join films just so I could find him and get married to him. You have a license of doing idiotic things when you're 15. However, I do not have a single regret of pursuing my first love. They say if you can count four friends on your fingers and trust them blindly, you're extremely fortunate. Salman happens to be one of them. He has a heart of gold and I know for a fact that if I were ever in need he would be the first person that I would call." In an interview to lassiwithlavina.com, she said, "No regrets at all. I learned a great deal from Salman and his family. Teenage years are formative years for individuals, especially a young girl and spendin...

Phoolan Devi  ( PhÅ«lan DevÄ« , Hindi:  फूलन देवी ) (10 August 1963 – 25 July 2001), popularly known as "The Bandit Queen", was an Indian dacoit and later apolitician. She was notorious across India during her time as a bandit. As a dacoit In 1979, a gang of dacoits abducted Phoolan. The gang leader, Baboo Gujjar, who was an upper-caste Gujjar, wanted to rape her. However, she was protected by Vikram, the deputy leader of the gang who belonged to Phoolan's caste, Mallah. One night when Baboo attempted to rape Phoolan, Vikram killed him and assumed the gang leadership. Phoolan became Vikram's second wife. The gang ransacked the village where Phoolan's husband lived. 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' movie review

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara Director:  Zoya Akhtar  Starring:  Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol Rating:  * * * * Jokes about teachers. Fights over girlfriends. Silly word games. Bare chests. Rippling muscles. Streaked hair. Sigh. Glossy looking and beautifully written. I must confess by the time I finished watching  Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara  I was convinced that no one can make a bromance as beautifully as a woman. The film is gentle, taking time out to look at horses running in the meadows, feel the wind the air, swim with the fish underwater. All that male beauty may be a little manipulative and the plot is a little contrived--three adventure sports to test your courage--but the story keeps you engaged. A meditative take on growing up, becoming a man, taking responsibility for one's actions, it has the courage to go for long periods with no dialogue. A scene where  Hrithik Roshan  does a Finding Nemo and another where the boys disco...

Review: Chillar Party

Review: Chillar Party   (Children) It’s one filmi formula that has traditionally been failsafe. Herd a bunch of frisky and fancy-free kids together, throw them into an emotional whirligig that pushes them to raise the banner of revolt against insensitive adults and let the ensuing tussle do the rest. It makes for good, unadulterated fun. Right up your street? Then Chillar Party is a must-watch for you. It squeezes in a quiet message even as it portrays the world purely from the gawky-eyed point of view of children. The film strikes a perfect balance between the two poles of the script. Well, almost. Written and directed by the duo of Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari and bankrolled by UTV Spotboy, Chillar Party got superstar Salman Khan so excited that he came on board as co-producer well after the film had got off the starting blocks. Great judgment – Chillar Party is indeed a film worth backing every which way. It moves from the light-hearted to the thought-provoking and f...

Ajay Devgn's Look for "Singham"

Luckily, this didn’t seem like a tough task given Ajay’s penchant for fitness and the fact that he already had a great physique. Fans of the actor can look forward to seeing him in a completely raw and desi action hero avatar in Singham . Ajay’s trainer Prashant Saawant had a major role to play in ensuring this. He trained with the actor for three months; helping him losing weight and making him more lean and muscular Trainer Prashant got Ajay to do a rigorous combination of weights and circuit super sets that incorporated all techniques including pushups and pull-ups. He also oversaw Ajay’s diet and made sure he maintained a high-protein low-carb diet to get that desired look Ajay Devgn has always sported a lean body in all his previous actions films. But for playing a cop in Singham he decided he needed to craft a more muscular body to suit some of the action sequences in...  more   In the film, Ajay plays a tough cop from a village on the Maharashtra-Goa bor...

Keerti Kulhari gal-on-gal smooch Kalki in Shaitan

After playing a fairly gharelu Punjabi kudi in the madcap comedy Khichdi The Movie, Keerti Kulhari was compelled to get bold for her role in Bejoy Nambiar's Shaitan. In the Anurag Kashyap production, she plays Tanya, a girl next-door who's part of a wild group and is compelled to lose her inhibitions. Read on to find out how the lines between her reel and real life have blurred. Tell us about Tanya... She is the most sober in the gang of shaitans. How does she end up kissing another girl, Amy (played by Kalki)? Tanya doesn't want to kiss Amy. They're playing truth and dare. Amy is a cool girl who likes to try different things. It's her turn and she 'dares' to kiss me. How do you rate Kalki as a kisser? It was hardly a kiss. Is it the only time you have been kissed by a girl? (Laughs) Yes. And it will be the last time ever. Has any girl made a pass at you? Yes. In Standard 10, there was a girl in my badminton team. I think she had the hots for me. Though she...

HAUNTED Movie Review

Release date: May 6, 2011 Director: Vikram Bhatt Cast: Mahakshay, Tia Bajpai, Arif Zakaria, Achint Kaur, Mohan Kapoor Haunted Poster I was the sort of child who was afraid of the dark, who used to imagine that a ghost would emerge from the commode, that there were spirits under my bed and figures hiding in the patterns of the mosaic tiles on the floor. Kids, I tell you! But I have no explanation for the fact that as a rational grown-up, although I do not believe in ghosts, somewhere at a sub-conscious level that I hate to acknowledge, I get unsettled by ghost stories. So it’s confession time: I kept a light on in my room the night after I watched Vikram Bhatt’s  Haunted . It’s silly of me, of course, but it made me realise that despite all my reservations about this film, it had struck home. Haunted  is a horror film about a young real estate agent finalising the sale of a house when strange things start happening in the night. He discovers that a female occupant of that...
