GIMP will not default part of Linux Ubuntu 10.04

Now the planing of next version of Ubuntu is going on, developers of Ubuntu taken a hard decision to remove the popular GIMP from the default Ubuntu installation. Very strong replies comes from the users of Ubuntu about this decision.

What is GIMP(GNU Image Manipulation Program ): GIMP is most important application software of Ubuntu and one of the most profound achievements of the Linux desktop ecosystem. It is a powerful, graph-based image editing framework. GIMP is one of the strong open source graphics editor that is available for Linux, Windows, and OS X. It provides capabilities like Photoshop and offers a broad feature set that has made it popular with amateur artists and open source fans.
The Main reasons for removing the GIMP from Ubuntu 10.04

The GIMP have great strengths that are precisely what make it unsuitable as a default component of a mainstream operating system. The main reasons are given below:

1)It have expansive assortment of rich features necessitate a complicated user interface that is intimidating to inexperienced users.

2)It is also saddled with a lengthy startup time due to its large collection of plugins. As one would expect of a high-end graphic editing tool,

3)It also uses a lot of disk space. Its size footprint is especially problematic for Ubuntu, because the distribution ships as a CD image and has a very limited amount of space.

For increasing the start up time and speed of the Ubuntu the developers are taken this hard decision. Sven Neumann, a respected GIMP developer and the author of the GIMP Pocket Reference, voiced approval on the GIMP developer mailing list.

he said "That is pretty much in-line with our product vision. GIMP is a high-end application for professionals. It is not the tool that you would advise every user to use for their casual photo editing,".

Replacement of GIMP (F-Spot for editing):
The developrs are taking care of users also the replace GIMP with light weighted F-spot. F-Spot, has basic editing features such as cropping and color adjustment, F-Spot is already included. It has popular photo fix-up capabilities like support for red-eye reduction.

F-spot is a bit too heavy for users who just want to do quick in-place editing of a single image. It has a very special view mode which allows it to be used without the overhead, However, The editing features were not previously accessible in this mode.

You can still get GIMP easily:

Peoples are criticizing the developers of Ubuntu for removing GIMP from default mainstream installation but I think that they are very much confuse about what actual means developers. They said that they are removing GIMP from default installation of Ubuntu but they didn't means that this package will not available in Ubuntu. GIMP will still be in Ubuntu's repositories where it will be easily accessible to users who want to install it through the package management system.

It will not install automatically in Ubuntu system but it will still be available through Ubuntu's Software Center.
